BIRGIT JONES is a Berlin-based rock band that defies conventions with her distinctive fusion of roughest post-glam doom. As a female-only ensemble, Birgit Jones comprises three powerful women, each embodying the persona of Birgit in their own unique way. Kristin on bass, Katja lending her vocals, and Nathalie on drums collectively create a force to be reckoned with.
The band's sonic identity is characterised by heavy sounds that resonate with the intensity of post-glam doom, while the lyrics add a touch of humour to the mix. With a penchant for hilariously candid expressions, Birgit Jones fearlessly tackles societal norms and challenges. Her unapologetic demand to be treated like a queen is accompanied by a rebellious streak, as she fearlessly cusses at the patriarchy. Through the bold sound, humorous lyrics, and unyielding attitude, Birgit redefines the narrative of female representation in the rock scene. Breaking boundaries with every riff and lyric, Birgit Jones stands as a testament to the strength, resilience, and irreverent spirit that is Birgit.
Besides creating several print designs for Birgit's album advertisements, I crafted "the Birgit" for the music video of the song "Moonlight Lifestyle." This character drew inspiration from the West German-Austrian-Hungarian children's series "Meister Eder und sein Pumuckl," which captivated audiences from 1979 to 1989. The source of inspiration, Pumuckl, is a loveable but mischievous red-haired Kobold who resides at Meister Eder's workshop, engaging in various pranks and antics.
The goal of the video was to evoke a self-made aesthetic, reminiscent of the 1980s style of the original TV show. To achieve this, animated sections were intentionally designed to adhere to the distinctive visual style of "Meister Eder und sein Pumuckl." The character "Birgit" not only pays homage to the beloved series but also adds a unique touch to the music video, creating a nostalgic yet fresh visual experience that aligns with the song's theme, "Moonlight Lifestyle.
